April at Bath Country Pets

There’s something about April that never quite loses its appeal to us here, lighter evenings, bluer skies and greener grass!

This week we have experienced the sudden shift to walking in t shirts, the countryside bursting back into life, lambs in the fields and blossom and bluebells appearing almost overnight. It’s the moment the year properly begins again, and a timely reminder of how lucky we are to spend our days outdoors with dogs, watching the seasons unfold. It remains, without question, our favourite time of year.

Our Next Community Walks

We have two lovely walks ahead, both very different in feel but equally worth setting aside a morning for.

Castle Combe Walk | Wednesday  April 22nd – Meet 10am, White Hart Ford

Our next walk takes us to the ever-beautiful Castle Combe, a village that seems to be quietly gaining a following for good reason.

We’ll be starting and finishing with our friends at the White Hart, who offer generous parking and a very warm welcome at both ends of the walk.  We’ll meet at 10am and set off at 10.15 for a relaxed hour’s walk through the surrounding countryside.

From the village, you’ll have two options for the return. Either enjoy the walk back at your own pace, or take advantage of our complimentary shuttle back up to the pub. Both routes end where they should, with coffee, something stronger if you wish, and the option of very good lunch.

This walk is kindly sponsored by our friends at For All DogKind, who will be gifting something lovely from their range to the first ten sign ups – Register for the walk here.

Westonbirt Walk | Tuesday 19th May – Meet 10am Westonbirt Arbouretum

In May, we return to Westonbirt Arboretum, always a favourite for dogs who appreciate a little more freedom.

We’ll take the quieter paths, well away from the main routes, with plenty of space for off lead exploring. We may also venture slightly further afield this time, following a lesser known route through a silver birch woodland and out into open fields beyond the arboretum’s edge.

As ever, we’ll finish at the coffee hut for a well earned cuppa and a catch up.  Register for this walk here:

Behind the Scenes

Preparations are well underway for Badminton Horse Trials, which runs from Wednesday 6th to Sunday 10th May this year.

We’ll be there with a fresh collection of stock for the season, including our new Bath Country Pets microfibre dog towels, alongside some exciting offers and extras for those visiting us at the stand.

Back at the shop, we’ve been giving the space a spring refresh, and we’re very nearly ready to open a dedicated teeth cleaning area. This will allow us to offer appointments alongside grooming, so that we can increase our appointment options.

The results we’re seeing continue to surprise us. One recent client, Teddy the poodle, came to us after being advised he may need seven teeth removed. After a series of weekly sessions over eight weeks, his latest check up confirmed that only two now require attention, his owner was understandably delighted!

Date for the Diary

If you fancy something a little different, our friends at Everyman Cinema Bath are hosting a dog friendly screening of Devil Wears Prada 2 on Sunday 3rd May.

Sofas, dogs, and a Sunday morning film. It’s a great combination.

Looking Ahead

Overnight stays – limited spaces at the end of this month.

We still have some availability for short stays and single overnight bookings between the 21st and 30th April, but spaces are limited and filling up quickly. If you’re planning a trip or need somewhere cosy and safe for your dog to stay, please do get in touch our pop online to secure your spot.

Have a wonderful Month!
